Half Day Post Details
This was the writing prompt given to Half Day fifth-graders, who had to imagine themselves as fugitives on the run for a crime of their choosing. The crimes ranged from stealing tennis rackets and cookies to doing cartwheels down the hallway or even being a Green Bay Packers fan.
As part of this creative exercise, students wrote from two perspectives: as the fugitive describing their crime, and as the authorities detailing the description and potential whereabouts of the suspect—whether on a soccer field, a tennis court, or playing an instrument.
This fun and creative activity, used by fifth-grade teachers as a way to get to know their students, also ties into Illinois English Language Arts standards. It encourages students to write regularly, improving their skills in gathering, organizing, interpreting, and presenting information. Enjoy pictures of the activity.
